Proteas assistant coach Enoch Nkwe and Western Province head coach Ashwell Prince resigned this month.

Prince has joined Bangladesh as a batting coach on a full-time basis. Nkwe, according to Cricket South Africa, has “decided to focus on personal growth and professional development.”

Nkwe meets the bulk, if not all, the criteria advertised by Western Province Professional Cricket to replace Prince.

Nkwe’s coaching credentials

Nkwe had been South Africa’s interim team director in 2019. He later moved to assistant coach on a full-time basis.

He missed the tour of the West Indies earlier this year. Titans head coach Mandla Mashimbyi, instead, assisted head coach Mark Boucher.

Previously, Nkwe had been assistant coach of the Netherlands – and performed the same role for the Vancouver Knights in the Global T20 Canada.

He won titles as the head coach of the Lions – and led the Jozi Stars to the inaugural Mzansi Super League trophy.

“Enoch has opportunity to return to the system in the future with a better sense of himself and being certain of the direction of his career,” added CSA.

“He has emphasised his unwavering commitment to SA cricket and especially the men’s team as they embark on a key tour to Sri Lanka in preparation for the T20 World Cup in October.”
