Former Proteas all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe has rejoined the Titans in South African domestic cricket.

Van der Merwe has not played for the Titans since March 2015. He has been playing international cricket for the Netherlands since 2015 – and county cricket in England.

In 2023, he played for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the inaugural edition of the SA20.

“We’re very pleased that Roelof is back. He can win you matches, can’t he? And we need some of that bulldog spirit. We saw that with David Wiese in the T20 Challenge – you need the old hands,” Titans chief executive officer Jaques Faul told Rapport.

“Roelof is already living here, only 15 minutes from the ground, and his kids are going to school locally. He plays for us as an overseas player.”

Van der Merwe is among a select group of cricketers who have played ODI and T20I cricket for two countries.

Phehlukwayo joins Titans, too

The Titans have also signed Proteas all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo.

Phehlukwayo was previously with the Dolphins – and recently returned to Cricket South Africa’s list of contracted players.

He has not been included in South Africa’s squad for next month’s T20 World Cup in the United States of America and Caribbean.

Magala moves to Titans as well

Fast bowler Sisanda Magala, meanwhile, has moved from the Lions to the Titans.

Magala hadn’t played for the Lions since October 2023. He has been capped eight times in ODI cricket and six times in T20I competition since debuting for the Proteas in 2021.
