Milnerton Cricket Club make the most of league cancellation with launch of Stag IPL

The premature end of the Western Province Cricket Association club season due to the ongoing drought in Cape Town and surrounds has left a lot of players twiddling their thumbs, at a loss with what to do with their Saturdays.

Not Milnerton Cricket Club, though, who have made the best of a bad situation – and launched their Stag IPL tournament.

“We have converted our gymnasium hall into a makeshift indoor cricket arena. We have put up netting to cover the archways and to prevent the balls flying through, but also providing a viewing area where the batting team could view the game and spectators also feel like they were part of the action,” said tournament organiser Brett Papayanni.

“Games consist of 12 overs each and take about 60 minutes to complete Most rules are similar to action cricket, but with some customised rules being brought into play due the arena conditions.”
