A wrap of results from day two of the 2018 National Club Championship in Pretoria.
Yorkshire Cricket Club v University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks)
Opening batsman Jiveshan Pillay struck a solid century, as the University of Pretoria Cricket Club comfortably overcame Yorkshire Cricket Club by 162 runs at the Tshwane University of Technology Oval on Monday.
An entertaining vigil from Pillay was well supported by half-centurion Neil Brand and all-rounder Ruan de Swardt, before Man of the Match Gideon Peters tolled with the ball, despite half-centurion Grant Mokoena’s defiance.
Scores in brief:
Tuks 311/9 (50 overs)
- Jiveshan Pillay 113; Neil Brand 72
- Themba Maupa 2/49; Lungile Ndlovu 2/60
Yorkshire Cricket Club 149/10 (41 overs)
- Grant Mokoeana 56; Aloysius Seleka 35
- Gideon Peters 6/27; Migael Pretorius 2/14
North-West University Cricket Club (Pukke) v Crusaders Cricket Club
Key contributions from middle-order batsman Wihan Lubbe and Ruan Haasbroek, followed by Crusaders Cricket Club’s collapse, carried the North-West University Cricket Club to a solid 81-run win at Memorial Park.
Crusaders Cricket Club’s pursuit posed plenty of promise at 60 for two, before they lost their last eight wickets for a mere 88 runs. New-ball bowler Julian Soutter, indeed, started what Man of the Match Katleho Leokaoke finished.
Scores in brief:
Pukke 229/9 (50 overs)
- Wihan Lubbe 42; Ruan Haasbroek 38
- Andile Mokgakane 3/39; Nick Hewer 2/39
Crusaders Cricket Club 148/10 (45.3 overs)
- Johnny Riekert 30; Jason Biddulph 24
- Katleho Leokaoke 4/18; Julian Soutter 3/21
Wellington Cricket Club v University of Fort Hare Cricket Club
A fine all-round performance from the talented Moshin Khan – and batsman Edward Small’s steely innings – ensured Wellington Cricket Club a hard-fought six-wicket victory over the University of Fore Hare Cricket Club at Tuks Cricket Oval.
Khan took two important wickets and dug deep at the top of the order, which complemented all-rounder Curtley Louw’s success with the bat and ball. Man of the Match Jerry Nqolo’s half-century, meanwhile, was in vain.
Scores in brief:
University of Fort Hare Cricket Club 178/6 (50 overs)
- Jerry Nqolo 83 not out; Simthembile Langa 33
- Curtley Louw 3/23; Moshin Khan 2/27
Wellington Cricket Club 182/4 (44.3 overs)
