Claremont Cricket Club retain WPCA premier league captain after head coach change

Claremont Cricket Club have retained captain Josh Breed for the 2025-26 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

Breed was among the leading wicket-takers in the 2024-25 WPCA premier league – and took the most wickets in three-day colts cricket across South Africa in the same season.

He debuted for Western Province in the One-Day Cup and is the reigning Western Province Academy Player of the Year.

Claremont Cricket Club won the 2022-23 WPCA premier league title. They ended the 2023-24 and 2024-25 WPCA premier league in fifth and eighth position, respectively – and have since appointed new head coach Eugene Moleon.

“Eugene brings with him a wealth of experience and cricketing expertise, both on and off the field. A respected figure in the South African cricket community, he has built a strong reputation for developing talent, driving high performance and fostering team culture,” read a statement from Claremont Cricket Club.

Claremont Cricket Club have signed former Milnerton Cricket Club trio Keegan Fortune, Rowen Taplin and Dillon Smit, but lost wicketkeeper-batsman Michael Appollis to Rondebosch Cricket Club.
