Former South Africa Under-19 captain Chad Bowes has been included in New Zealand A’s squad for next month’s tour of India.

Bowes played first-class cricket for KwaZulu-Natal before relocating to New Zealand – and has forged a domestic career with Canterbury.

He struck centuries against Otago and Auckland in the Plunket Shield – New Zealand’s leading first-class cricket competition – earlier this year.

Former Cape Cobras all-rounder Michael Rippon, who has represented New Zealand A previously and recently debuted for the country in T20I cricket, has also been included.

“It’s great to have A fixtures back on the touring calendar and even more exciting to have the team playing in foreign conditions,” said chief selector Gavin Larsen.

“This programme and tours like these are vital in developing our people and giving them opportunities to test themselves against quality opposition.

“We have an exciting mix in this group, including players who dominated our last home season.

“With a mix of red-ball and white-ball matches it’s a great chance to see the players in a variety of situations against what we know will be a very strong home side.”
