Seamer Mondli Khumalo collapsed during KwaZulu-Natal Inland’s 4-Day Domestic Series fixture against Border at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Sunday.
Khumalo was not in the hosts’ playing XI. He was 12th man.
He has been hospitalised and is reportedly in a stable condition.
“Yesterday, our team-mate Mondli Khumalo collapsed next to the side of the field on day four of our first-class game against Border. People struggled to get through on the emergency numbers at first, but thank goodness for the Namola app,” wrote KwaZulu-Natal Inland batsman Tian Koekemoer on Twitter.
“Without the app, we would have waited for a long time for an ambulance to arrive, so my question is, is it not mandatory to have an ambulance next to the field at all times during a first-class game?”
Khumalo required surgery after being attacked in the United Kingdom last year.
