Durbanville Cricket Club batsman Daniel Lategan has signed a three-year contract with Worcestershire in county cricket in the United Kingdom.

Lategan was among Durbanville Cricket Club’s title-winning 2024-25 Western Province Cricket Association premier league campaign.

He has collected scores of 95, 38 not out and 49 for Worcestershire’s second XI this month.

“The 19-year-old, a product of the club’s highly-regarded academy system, has impressed in the Worcestershire second XI across both formats over recent months with a string of eye-catching performances,” said Worcestershire head coach Alan Richardson.

“Cape Town-born Lategan joined the academy at under-15 level and made significant strides in 2025, showcasing his quality against experienced bowling attacks.

“Dan has earned this opportunity through his performances and his attitude, both on and off the field. He’s a talented young cricketer who has shown he can compete at second XI level and we believe he has all the ingredients to succeed in the professional game.”

Lategan added: “It is a dream come true to be signing my first pro contract. I’m very thankful for everyone that has helped me along the way and I couldn’t be happier.

“Representing such a great club is an honour. The lads at the club are a great bunch and the changing room is a great environment. I’m very excited to be working closely with the coaches and feel my game can constantly improve with their guidance.

“My ambition is to contribute to winning games for Worcestershire. I’d love to break into the first team and prove myself at the professional level and hopefully help Worcestershire win games in the years to come.”

Worcestershire chief executive officer Ashley Giles concluded: “We see Dan having huge potential in the medium and long term.

“He has all the skills to make him a really successful first-class cricketer. Our focus is on building a squad that combines the best emerging talent with the quality and experience of our senior players, both are equally important to our future long term success.”
