Claremont Cricket Club appoint new head coach – ‘respected figure in South African cricket community’

Claremont Cricket have appointed new head coach Eugene Moleon ahead of the 2025-26 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

Moleon has previously been head coach of Tygerberg Cricket Club and the University of Cape Town Cricket Club.

He has succeeded former Claremont Cricket Club head coach Allison Johnson, whose tenure ended earlier this year.

“Eugene brings with him a wealth of experience and cricketing expertise, both on and off the field. A respected figure in the South African cricket community, he has built a strong reputation for developing talent, driving high performance and fostering team culture,” read a statement from Claremont Cricket Club.

“As a former professional cricketer, Eugene combines technical knowledge with first-hand playing experience, offering our players invaluable insights into the modern game. His leadership style emphasises discipline, resilience, and unity – qualities that align perfectly with Claremont Cricket Club’s values and long-term vision.”

Claremont Cricket Club won the 2022-23 WPCA premier league title. They ended the 2023-24 and 2024-25 WPCA premier league in fifth and eighth position, respectively.

“We are excited to welcome Eugene to the Claremont family and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our players, our culture and our success on the field,” added the club.

“We wish Eugene all the very best in his new role. We are confident that under his guidance, Claremont Cricket Club is poised for a bright and competitive future.”
