Proteas batsman Tristan Stubbs played for Old Grey Cricket Club last week.
Stubbs scored three and bowled one wicketless over in Old Grey Cricket Club’s five-wicket T20 win over Gelvandale Cricket Club in the 2025-26 Eastern Province Cricket T20 premier league in Port Elizabeth.
Warriors batsman Jean du Plessis also played for Old Grey Cricket Club – and top-scored with 67.
“This past Sunday was more than just a club cricket match – it was a celebration of what makes Old Grey Cricket Club truly special,” Old Grey Cricket Club committee representative Ryan McLean told Club Cricket SA.
“To have professional cricketers Jean du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs don the Old Grey colours was an incredible privilege.
“Their presence on the field was not only a boost for our team, but a powerful reminder of the strength and unity within our club culture.
“Moments like these are what inspire the next generation. For our young players, sharing the field with professionals they admire is an experience they will never forget – and perhaps the spark that ignites their own journey to higher honours.
“It speaks volumes about the spirit and culture of our club when players of this calibre make themselves available for club cricket, showing commitment to their roots and passion for the game at every level.”
Several Proteas, past and present, have been active in club cricket. Earlier this month, batsman Sarel Erwee and all-rounder Robbie Frylinck won the Hollywoodbets T20 Challenge title with Crusaders Cricket Club.
